November 1998 - Present: I work as a Senior Analyst Programmer for MACE Systems Ltd (formerly MOS Computers), a software house specialising in Pick based database software for retail and wholesale industries. My work primarily involves software development and testing, with telephone support, training and documentation also playing a part. Programming languages used are Pick Basic and Visual Basic .Net.
July 1997 - July 1998: I worked for 12 months in the Technical Support department of WWS Ltd, a software house specialising in Pick database software for the Homecare industry, until being made redundant due to restructuring of the company. Work was primarily telephone support.
July 1995 - July 1997: I worked in various temporary positions, consistently proving myself to be flexible, adaptable and ready to meet new challenges. In June 1997 I received the first Tunbridge Wells Brook Street Employment Agency 'Temp of the Month' award. Temporary jobs were largely secretarial, but also included:
April 1997 - May 1997: Financial Research and data entry at PFM Valuelink, a leading Financial Management company.
January 1997 - April 1997: Personal Assistant to the Managers at the Tunbridge Wells Branch of Midland Private Banking, Independent Financial Advisers.
November 1995 - October 1996: Assistant Buyer in the Systems Engineering Office of Servomex International Ltd, a major international OEM of gas analysers and gas analyser systems. Though initially employed to type purchase orders, I spent most of my time at Servomex as an engineering buyer and expediter.
October 1995 - November 1995: 4 weeks entering financial data into the computer database of PFM Valuelink.
October 1991 - June 1995: Throughout this time I was at University studying Biochemistry. I developed considerable Internet and WWW experience, becoming one of the first Bath students to set up WWW pages. I developed practical experience of most standard office software, particularly spreadsheets and word processing packages, as well as molecular modelling experience, programming experience (BASIC, Modula 2 & HTML) and a sound understanding of good programming practice.
My final year research project involved the molecular modelling of a protein using a Silicon Graphics workstation. Also in this year I presented a number of seminars ranging from the ethics of embryo research to the recognition of self by the immune system.
My thin sandwich degree course included two 6-month placements, during the summers of 1993 and 1994. My first assignment, as part of an ongoing project, was to continue with efforts to purify and crystallise a particular protein of interest (clathrin) for structural study.
In my second placement my project was to investigate the potential of a new class of microscopy, Scanning Probe Microscopy, in the study of protein structure. I also became involved in programming and in the computer modelling of substrate binding to proteins.
